This dataset provides insights into the demographics, work preferences, and technology choices of developers worldwide. By analyzing responses from thousands of developers, we uncover key trends in years of coding experience, employment status, education levels, and preferred tools. The dataset helps us understand the diversity within the developer community and how different factors influence their career paths.




  • Years of Experience: About 75% of developers have less than 15 years of coding experience, while only 25% have more than 15 years, with some even exceeding 30-40 years.

  • Gender Distribution: The majority of respondents (87%) are men, while 7% are women and 5% identify as other genders. Interestingly, 74% of men code as a hobby, while only 4% of women do the same.

  • Employment Status: Most developers (79%) work full-time, while 9.8% are independent contractors.



  • Developer Types: Around 24% identify as full-stack developers. However, with nearly 20 different categories for developer roles, categorizing them precisely is challenging.

  • Education Levels: The majority (46%) have a bachelor's degree, 22% hold a master's degree, and 10% have a high school diploma or other certifications.

  • Age Distribution: More than half (52%) of developers are between 20-30 years old, while 40% are over 30.


Technology Preferences & Regional Insights
  • Top Countries: The U.S. has the highest number of developers (~16,000), followed by India (~6,000), the U.K., and others.

  • Code Editors: The most preferred editor is Visual Studio, followed by Notepad++.

  • Operating Systems: Over 3,000 developers use Windows, followed by macOS, which slightly surpasses Linux.
